During her economics studies at VU Amsterdam, Suzanne made a rigorous decision. She dropped out of her studies to follow her heart and started at Vakschool Schoonhoven, where she successfully completed her training as a goldsmith. With her diploma in hand, she then moved to Dallas (USA), where she quickly gained experience as a jewelry designer and goldsmith. In 2002, Suzanne returned to the Netherlands and started CLIC Creations.
Dismantling old radios for jewelry
“With CLIC, everything falls into place. Everything comes together in it: my creativity, my drive to be an entrepreneur, and my love for technology. As a child, I already loved being creative and had a passion for technology. I took apart old clocks, calculators, and even radios to extract the parts – you could make beautiful jewelry with those! I was always busy with beads, strings, clay, glue. I also loved looking around in my father's woodworking and metalworking business. I learned a lot there.
From economics to goldsmith
Why did I choose to study economics? Good question, one I can't really answer... From the village in Brabant where I grew up, I moved to Amsterdam, where I rented a room and enjoyed student life. Soon, I signed up for a goldsmithing course in the evenings. While I found my studies rather boring, I could truly express myself in the course. Course instructor Jaap de Vries, an authority in the field, essentially gave me the final push. He saw a talent in me and encouraged me to pursue training as a goldsmith. Yes, Einstein's quote 'Creativity is intelligence having fun' suits me well.
Robust machines, refined jewelry
robust and timeless and forms a beautiful basis for powerful, simple designs. My love for technology is reflected in working with aluminum. The material is relatively soft, and that requires specific knowledge and tools. So, our workshop houses large, robust machines. It's wonderful to see how refined jewelry eventually emerges from them! The common thread in my collection is graphic shapes, playing with matte, glossy, and colorful details, and an invisible clasp.
C+C became CLIC
The name CLIC is derived from that invisible clasp. The name actually comes from the design of my very first bracelet 'C+C', still one of the masterpieces in our collection. The bracelet consists of two lightweight C-shapes. Incorporating magnets proved to be the solution for connecting the C-shapes, and thus CLIC was born. We've come a long way with many collections since then. More than two hundred designs have been developed into jewelry, and my CLIC label is sold by renowned jewelers. For several years now, CLIC has also been crossing borders, and that's absolutely amazing! That the little girl who dismantled radios now makes beautiful jewelry for women all over the world... I never dared to dream that!
With love
With CLIC, I stay true to myself. My collection stands for powerful, wearable art. Suitable for a special occasion, but also for everyday wear. Each piece is crafted with love in a traditional way by me and my team. I put a piece of myself into every CLIC piece of jewelry.
Hence: CLIC by Suzanne.
