The magic of a magnetic clasp
How small magnets make a big difference in jewelry design
Some details make a piece of jewelry beautiful. Other details make a piece of jewelry unforgettable.
At CLIC by Suzanne, this magic is literally hidden in the design: in the small, powerful magnets that make our jewelry close almost by itself.
What starts for many people as a practical solution, often ends with a small moment of wonder. That subtle “click” when a bracelet or necklace closes by itself. No visible clasp. No fumbling in front of the mirror. No help needed from anyone else. Just an elegant movement… and CLIC.
It's no coincidence that this experience eventually even became our name.
The unique magnetic clasp has now become the common thread through almost all CLIC by Suzanne designs. The magnets are small, strong, and invisibly integrated into the design, allowing functionality and form to merge completely. (clicbysuzanne.nl)
It started with one bracelet: OLIVIA
The idea for the magnetic clasp arose during the design of the very first CLIC bracelet: the iconic OLIVIA.
During the design process, there was one clear wish: the bracelet had to look sleek, minimalist, and fluid — without a disruptive traditional clasp. No visible clasp interrupting the design. No technique distracting from the form.
But of course… a bracelet also just needs to stay closed. Preferably elegantly. Preferably cleverly. Preferably without frustration.
That's where the idea came from to invisibly integrate small, strong magnets between the two C-shapes. As soon as the ends come close to each other, the magnets attract each other with precision and the shapes click together almost by themselves. (clicbysuzanne.nl)
And precisely that moment still evokes reactions.
People pick up a CLIC piece of jewelry, examine it carefully, and then often ask:
“But… how does it actually close?”
That small surprise effect remains special. Precisely because the technique is hidden in simplicity.
No more fuss with tiny clasps
Anyone who has ever tried to put on a classic bracelet with one hand knows exactly why our customers are so enthusiastic about the magnetic clasp.
Traditional jewelry clasps can be frustrating:
-
tiny hooks,
-
hard-to-see eyelets,
-
swiveling clasps,
-
or nails that are just too short at the wrong moment.
At CLIC, we wanted to do things differently.
Thanks to the magnetic system, the jewelry can be easily put on and taken off independently. The magnets, as it were, guide the movement and automatically draw the parts together. (De Blaker exclusief)
This ease is especially appreciated by women who:
-
are often on the go,
-
want to quickly change jewelry,
-
love comfort,
-
or simply don't feel like complicated clasps at seven in the morning with a cup of coffee in hand.
Because let's be honest: jewelry should primarily bring joy. Not morning gymnastics for your fingers.
Small in size, powerful in function
The magnets used in CLIC by Suzanne jewelry have a small but strong magnetic field. This makes them extremely suitable as an elegant clasp: compact, powerful, and reliable.
Precisely because the magnets are integrated so subtly, the design remains calm and minimalist. The eye sees no technical solution — only form, line, and simplicity.
This makes the clasp not only practical but also part of the design concept itself.
The technique supports the design, without ever demanding attention. And precisely therein often lies the power of good design: when something feels self-evident, while it has been incredibly well thought out.
Wonder as part of the design
At CLIC, we believe that jewelry should do more than just be beautiful.
A piece of jewelry should surprise.
Evoke a smile.
Start a conversation.
The magnetic clasp does exactly that.
Many customers first show their bracelet or necklace to someone else. Then, almost automatically, comes that moment when they demonstrate how the clasp works. And invariably, that reaction follows:
“Ohhh… how clever!”
That small moment of wonder may have become just as important as the piece of jewelry itself.
Design and functionality do not have to be a contradiction
In the world of jewelry, functionality is sometimes seen as something technical. Something you have to "solve" in addition.
At CLIC by Suzanne, we see that differently.
A clasp should not only be functional — it should become part of the beauty of the design. That's why the magnets are integrated into almost every design in a clever and refined way. (edelsmederijfacet.nl)
The result:
-
a minimalist look,
-
a comfortable wearing experience,
-
and a recognizable signature that has become typical CLIC.
A subtle note about magnets and pacemakers
Although the magnets used are small, they have a strong magnetic field. For most people, this is not a problem at all.
However, people with a pacemaker or other medical implants are advised to consult their doctor or specialist beforehand before wearing magnetic jewelry. A small check often provides clarity and certainty.
More than a clasp
What once began as a search for an invisible clasp for the first OLIVIA bracelet, grew into a distinctive part of the CLIC by Suzanne brand.
Today, the magnetic clasp symbolizes what the brand stands for:
-
simplicity,
-
innovation,
-
comfort,
-
wonder,
-
and powerful Dutch design.
Or, as many customers now experience it:
You don't just put on a piece of jewelry.
You experience a small moment of magic.
CLIC.
